My father used to tell me bedtime stories when we were little…the kind that didn’t just put you to sleep, they made you dream.

This one was about a reluctant hero named Aniakchak, brave, sarcastic, and slightly lazy. He rode a sabertooth tiger and saved a princess he didn’t really like.

It sounds silly now, but that story never left me. Maybe because it wasn’t about courage at all, it was about keeping your word.

I used to think finding my voice was about learning how to sound right.

But the voice I was looking for was never in the sound.
